Africtionary Football is a new home for the history of African football: every player, every cap, every move. It lives at sports.africtionary.com/soccer, and it starts with South Africa.
If you have ever tried to settle an argument about how many caps a Bafana player won, or when a PSL legend moved clubs, you know the problem. The big global sites track European leagues in fine detail, but our own footballers are often a name, a photo and very little else. Careers that filled stadiums on a Saturday afternoon disappear from the record within a few years.
Africtionary Football exists to fix that. It is not a live-scores app. It is an archive: a place where a player's whole career is written down properly and stays there.
What you'll find
- Players and coaches. Each profile shows club appearances and goals season by season, international caps and goals, every transfer with its fee where known, and the matches he played in. For internationals, every goal is listed with the opponent, the score and the minute. Retired players who became coaches get a coaching record too: matches in charge, wins, draws and losses.
- Clubs and national teams. The current squad by position, results and fixtures, arrivals and departures, honours, and the opponents they have met most often.
- Matches. Lineups, substitutes, goals with assists, cards and substitutions, with the venue, referee and crowd where we have them.
- Competitions. League tables built from the results, fixtures by round, top scorers and assists, and a list of past winners, for the PSL, the cups, CAF club competitions, AFCON and more.
Everything is linked. Click a scorer on a match page and you land on his career; click his club and you see their squad; click the ground and you see every match played there.
Four places to start
Head-to-head. Before the next Soweto derby, see how Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have fared against each other: wins, draws, biggest results, the record at each team's home, and who has scored most in the fixture.
Records. The records pages answer the pub questions: Bafana's most-capped players and top scorers, the youngest and oldest scorers, the biggest wins, hat-tricks, and the longest unbeaten runs. There are all-time records for every national team, club and competition with enough data.
Transfer centre. The transfer centre follows each window, January and mid-year, with every move, the fees, the biggest deals and the busiest clubs. Filter by club to see one team's ins and outs.
On this day. Every day of the year has its own page: players born that day, famous results from past years, debuts and hat-tricks. It's a small daily dose of football history.
A work in progress, honestly
The record is not complete yet, and we'd rather say so. Recent seasons are covered in depth, with full lineups and goal times. Older seasons are being added a few at a time, from match data and from season totals in club records.
We show you where the gaps are. A head-to-head page tells you the date its record starts from, so you know the all-time totals may be higher. Caps count only official senior internationals, the same rule the federations use.
Fans often know these careers better than any database. If you spot a wrong date, a missing transfer or a player we don't have yet, tell us and we'll correct it.
